1. With one hand hold the knife sharpener by the stainless steel rod.
2. For very dull knifes, hold the knife by the handle and pull it along the coarse slot toward you 2 to 4 times.
3. Move the knife over to the fine slot and pull it toward you 2 to 8 times, or until desired sharpness is achieved.
